Your Resume’ Must Stand Out

31 Oct

You’ve got under a minute to grab the recruiter’s attention with your resume’.  Use key words that describe the position you are applying for. Lift the words from the job announcement or advertisement. Recruiters spend most of their time scanning for key words that match their job openings.  It is important to get your resume’ screened in. The goal is to get invited for an interview.

Apply for jobs even when there is no openings.  Don’t wait until you see a help wanted sign or an ad.  Send in your cover letter and resume’ right now.  The “hidden job market” is one of the best places to look for work.  When unexpected job openings come up and the positions needs to be filled quickly they may call in candidates who already have a resume’ on file.  It saves the employer the time and  hassle of posting an ad.

If you need to beef up your resume’ try volunteering at an agency or company related to the job you want to apply for. Unpaid work experience is equivalent to paid work experience.  Many employers see volunteering or internships on your resume’ as more desirable because it shows you are a go-getter.
