The highest achievers don’t always shoot for the moon. Sometimes they shoot for the stars and that is OK. Having a moderate goal is not always a bad idea. We need goals that are not to high and not to low, and that can be tricky. For example, if your child is reading a book and knows every word on the page, the book is to easy. If your child is reading a book and doesn’t know five words on the page, the book is to hard. Dr. Sylvia Rimm says, “high achievers usually have moderate goals”. Goals need to be not to hard, and not to easy. In the above example, it would be fun to have our children reading medium level books and enjoying them without the frustration of having to be “the best” or the fear of being “the worst.” I say it’s time to make being medium an OK place to be. So unplug yourself and your kids from all those electronics and grab a book and read tonight as a family.
