Interview Tips for the Older Worker

23 Nov

It seems like most people take issue with having to go through the interview process. It is one of those necessary evils that causes our stress and anxiety to go up. Especially when applying for that job you really want. Here are a few tips from Kerry Hannon author of “Great Jobs for Everyone 50+.”

l. Make a first great impression.
2. Get in physical shape. It gives you an energetic, vibrant appearance.
3. Spruce up your hairstyle with an up-to-date cut.
4. Wear clothes that are in fashion.
5. Focus on the companies needs not yours.
6. Watch your body language.
7. Look and act interested.
8. Look people in the eye.
9. Be prepared to discuss how you have kept up with technology and changes in your field.
10. Highlight your strengths.
11. Know the company’s history and goals.
12. Do not bad mouth past employers.

In closing, I will add the Julie Woodworker Hubbs MUST do’s in interviews. Always be your genuine authentic self. I can not stress this enough. Show confidence not arrogance, use good manners, be polite and believe there is a job out there for you.
