Do you want to look better in your clothes without dieting? I know I do. I’ve always known a deep V-neck creates a slimming line and small prints are more flattering than large prints. But, what else can we do to look slimmer?
First we need to start with a good fitting bra. It is worth a trip to a store specializing in bra sales. Knowing your “accurate and correct” bra size does not guarantee purchasing a bra that is a good fit for you. Trying on many bras made by several makers is essential to finding the best bra for you. Asking a professional bra salesperson for help can be a positive and rewarding experience.
Second, we need shapewear to wear under our outfits. There are many different kinds and brands out there. I carry most of my weight between my waist and my knees. I was initially told to get myself some bike-shorts shapewear to cover my “problem areas.” I hated them! When I sat down I could see the outline on my thighs. The shapewear designed to make me feel better about myself made me feel horrible about myself. After assessing my body and my comfort level with shapewear, I bought myself a shaper slip. I love it! I feel good about myself when I wear it under my dresses, I seldom wear slacks.
Third, accessorize with scarves, necklaces and/or belts. A beautiful scarf in a color that flatters skin tones will distract from other areas of the body we don’t want to show off. I love to accessorize with jewelry. There is nothing like a statement necklace and a fun pair of earrings to create a power statement. I always check out the discount stores and clearance sections of department stores. Skinny belts are also a wonderful slimming trick. Wide belts usually add pounds while skinny belts take away pounds. Don’t be afraid to break out of your old belief system, cinch in that waist.
Fourth, do not wear jeans that are to big. I fall victim to this if I am not careful. Who doesn’t love to have that overly comfortable feeling? I can get used to the feeling of wearing yoga pants. We need to understand, jeans are meant to be worn snug. We look smaller when our jeans actually fit. Again, we have to try on tons of jeans to find the correct fit. I love wearing jeans with a cute pair of boots.
Fifth, posture, posture, posture I can not say that enough. The only way to truly have good posture is to get and keep cores and abs strong. We can build our cores by doing sit-ups, standing on one foot, going into the plank position often or doing squats. We also need to get in the practice of standing up straight, holding in our stomachs and throwing our shoulders back. Though out the day remember to take deep breaths in through the nose and exhale through the mouth and remember to hold the tummy in. Not only will we look slimmer we will have better balance as we age.
