Sometimes when I am in a crowded room and I am suppose to be networking, I get filled with self-doubt and just want to disappear into the wall. I have learned when this happens what I need to do is make myself bigger. I position myself to take up more space. Body language experts say an “expansive posture activates a sense of power and makes others think and believe you are in command and are confident”. Have you ever heard the phrase “fake it until you make it?” Well, sometimes that is me. I can get very nervous when I am part of a crowd. So, when my nerves kick in, I stand with my hands on my hips, place my legs shoulder-width apart, take deep soothing breaths, align my head, heart and gut and say it like I mean it. For sure I can not be the only nervous person in the crowd.
