The Power To Change Your Own World.

The Power To Change Your Own World.

You have the power to change your own world.  People seem to think making huge moves are the only ones that transforms lives.  Often times the smaller gestures work better and reap larger rewards.   This last holiday season, my husband and I decided to give two wait staff people a twenty dollar “gift” before they received their tip.  We don’t go out to eat often, so I was not sure who these people would be or what restaurant this would happen in.  In early December my husband and I went to a local chain restaurant for an early bird dinner.

Total price of the meal was $16, we gave our waitstaff a twenty dollar bill, and then my husband went up to pay the cashier.  The waitress swung by and told the cashier she had the payment and needed to get our change.  He told her the twenty was for her and he still needed to pay his bill.  She began to weep and shared her gas tank was on empty and she needed gas to work the rest of the week.

Smile

A smile has the power to change a mood or attitude.    My mother had the best smile. It was so bright she’d light up a room when she walked in.  She always wanted people to feel included.  She’d say, “You never know what a person is going through or has gone through.  Maybe you could be a bright spot in that person’s otherwise complicated day.”

Years ago, I was terrified to walk into a room full of strangers.  A beautiful woman smiled and invited me to sit at her table.  I loved her energy and kindness and told her so.  She thanked me, and her smile got bigger.  When I left the meeting, I thought about how easy a mood or attitude can be changed with a smile.

When I am invited to speak before groups, I always scan the room looking for that one person with the best smile.  Why? Because that smile changes my mood, helps me relax, and makes me feel like I belong.  A smile from someone, even a stranger, helps calms my nerves.

Smiles are contagious and cause a ripple effect.  It’s hard to frown when someone’s flashing you a beautiful smile.  Smiles are something that should be worn often, so surround yourself with people who brighten your day because the world is always a better place when people smile.

Doing nice for others.

Do one unselfish gesture every single day and before you know it will become your habit.
